The computer lab is a separate classroom connected to the Library Media Center. Each class works in the lab once a week where teachers integrate technology activities within the curriculum.
The lab is equipped with PCs and each computer is networked. The lab computers are part of a LAN (local area network) as well as a WAN (wide area network). The WAN provides full Internet access. Internet access is only allowed to students supervised by an Internet-trained staff member and to those that have parent permission for Internet use. Elementary students are not allowed to perform searches while on the Internet. All sites have to be pre-selected and bookmarked in advance by an Internet-trained staff member. Only curriculum-related material can be accessed through the Internet.
In addition to Internet access, different software is used to enhance the classroom curriculum and student productivity. All lab computers have access to a magazine index called SIRS, World Book Multimedia Encyclopedia, Nettrekker, Facts on File: Junior Resources and Infobits.
