Accelerated Reader is an optional reading incentive program for grades 3 through 5 designed to work on student comprehension skills and ready fluency. Students may choose to read a book for which there is a five or ten question test on the classroom and LMC computers. Depending on how well a student scores on the test they are taking, they receive points. As their points accumulate, they receive prizes. Students are encouraged to choose AR books that are at or a little above their reading level to both challenge and support quality reading habits.
Summer Reading programs are offered to students through Naperville and Aurora Public Libraries. Students will be given information about these programs in May. See What's New in the LMC during the summer months for more information of community summer reading programs.
The Chicago Rush: Rush to Reading program will start in October and end in January. 3rd through 5th grade students are asked to read four books (one per month for the duration of the program) and submit a one-page report about each book to their teacher. Every student who accomplishes the goal will receive a coupon redeemable for complimentary tickets to a 2009 Chicago Rush home game of their choice.
The Kane County Cougars: Ozzie’s Reading Club incentive program will begin in January and end in February. The program will run for 6 weeks. After meeting the reading goal, students will receive a free ticket voucher that parents are responsible for sending into the Kane County Cougars ticket booth. Actual tickets will be sent to your home address.
The Six Flags Great America: Read to Succeed program will also begin in January and end in February. Student names are submitted and the tickets returned to students before the end of the school year. Free tickets for the program must be redeemed during a specific time period during the summer months.
