About Our SchoolBuildingWhite Eagle opened in 1995 as a K-5 elementary school, with a capacity for 650 students. There are 22 classrooms grouped around the Library Media Center (LMC). Support areas include an art, music, and multi-purpose room, in addition to a computer lab, stage, and gymnasium. ExpectationsWhite Eagles programs, curriculum, and instruction are designed to provide students with the basic skills and learning experiences to be healthy, self-directed, and responsible citizens, who can work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and solve problems creatively. Special EducationWhite Eagle is a full inclusion school with support teachers. The staff manages the following services: learning disabilities resource instruction, speech and language services, occupational and physical therapy, behavior specialist, vision and hearing referrals, social work, and educational testing by the school psychologist. Academic SupportA variety of programs are available to provide students with both remedial and enriched instruction. These include Project Arrow (gifted), enrichment units, cross age tutors, Accelerated Reader, Project GAP (reading), accelerated math (grades 3-5), and assistance from parent volunteers. Grade Level Student ProgramsGrade level programs are designed to provide an assortment of experiences for the K-5 students. These include choral programs; kindergarten, second, and fifth grade musicals; first grades space program; third grades poetry night; and the fourth grade State Fair. Before and After School ProgramsEducational opportunities are not confined to the school day at White Eagle. Other programs include: band, orchestra, chorus, intramural sports, technology, foreign language, science, writing, board games, and student council. School Business PartnershipWhite Eagle School is a full participant with the Indian Prairie School Business Partnership program. Our business partners play an active role encouraging and enhancing student learning. Student RecognitionStudents are recognized for their service as: Student Council members, cross age tutors; safety patrols; and for their achievement by physical fitness, Young Authors participants, PTA Reflections winners, I-Search Calendar winners, perfect attendance, and citizenship. Enhanced CurriculumThe following programs are regularly offered to broaden the students educational background: D.A.R.E., Red Ribbon Week, Star Raiders, I-Search, fire-bus-weather safety, Safe and Smart at Home, Art Awareness, and environmental education, to name a few. Field TripsField trips are taken to reinforce classroom instruction and to enrich the students background knowledge. Trips may include: WVHS Planetarium, Naper Settlement, Honey Hill Apple Orchard, Hamman Farm, Blackberry Farm, Brookfield Zoo, Robert Crown Health Center, Morton Arboretum, Fermi Lab prairie, and various childrens plays and concerts. Parents & GuardiansParents and staff members are critical partners in the successful education of every child. Parent volunteers work in the LMC, computer lab, and classrooms. Parents visit the school regularly as Parent of the Week. Other parent programs include: Kindergarten first day visit and orientation, Open House, Curriculum Night, and parent/teacher conferences for all students. All parents and staff are encouraged to join and support the White Eagle PTA, which provides many resources, activities, and support for students, staff, and parents.
