Principal's Update
DATE October 10, 2021

District 204 administrators have been made aware that there are planned TikTok challenges circulating related to student behavior at school. September’s TikTok challenge was all about students vandalizing bathrooms and destroying school property. October’s new challenge is termed “smack a staff member on the backside.” Police are warning students these viral TikTok’s are much more than just challenges. They are criminal offenses as some of these challenges are bordering on assault.

Please speak with your child about the serious nature of these challenges and help educate them that these are not appropriate for school. Any student who chooses to carry out any of these challenges at school will be subject to school and police consequences. If your child has any information on these occurrences at school, please encourage them to speak to their principal or another trusted adult at school.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter!

On Monday, October 11th, we have the day off of school due to a federal holiday for Columbus Day. In the past few years, Native Americans, along with some politicians, have called for this day to be renamed Ingidenous People Day. Ingidenous People Day would be "a day to honor Native Americans, their resilience and their contributions to American society throughout history, even as they faced assimilation, discrimination and genocide spanning generations" ( 10/11/21). On Friday, President Biden made a proclamation to observe this holiday as Indigenous People Day. This has been a long time coming, as it was first discussed to make this change in 1977.

IPPC's 2021-22 Reflections Program is underway. Students of all grades (K-12) and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the 2021-22 theme: "I Will Change the World By..." Our Reflections program will be conducted virtually, as we did last year. You can turn in your submission form and artwork online through this link. Reflect on the theme, create art, and be recognized! Last date to submit your artwork is Friday, October 29th, 2021. Please see the flyer attached to the very bottom of this email.

Superintendent Dr. Adrian Talley is holding three Listen & Learn sessions with the community in which he will share information about the district as well as his goals. Community members will have an opportunity to share their feedback on what works in the district, what is not working, and what specific suggestions they have for what’s not working. Information gathered during these sessions will help the superintendent in planning for the future and may be used as part of the strategic planning process that will start later in the school year. The next Listen & Learn Session will be held from 7 - 9 pm on Thursday, November 4 at Granger Middle School (RSVP here). The final session will be held Tuesday, December 14 at Crone Middle School (RSVP here).
If you have questions regarding the Listen & Learn sessions, please contact Lisa Barry, Executive Director of Communication Services, at
